Yummm...strawberry specials at B&B's!

strawberry breakfastCelebrate spring with fresh local strawberries! With many flowers in bloom, come and visit Halifax  County for two nights at a local bed and breakfast in May and enjoy sumptuous strawberry centered breakfasts. Try treats like whole wheat strawberry pancakes and chocolate and strawberry stuffed French toast or maybe just fresh strawberries with whipped cream.  Then savor tea (iced or hot) at another bed and breakfast. You may have strawberry soup, strawberry cheesecake or Kentucky buttercake with strawberries.  You can see different parts of the county in the spring because this package includes two nights at one Halifax County  bed and breakfast and tea at another.

Also, you can pick your own strawberries or buy them already picked at Reese’s Farm Fresh in Scottsburg. You will want to take home strawberries because they taste so good—much better than what you can get at the grocery store.

Virginia Traditions

Posted by Lisa Kipps-Brown in Virginia traditions , travel , holidays , history , family

Sometimes we native Virginians are so used to our rich history that we forget that everyone else isn't familiar with all aspects; my son & daughter were born in Florida and were teens and tweens when we moved here, and many times I find myself mistakenly taking for granted that they know certain things about my native state - recent case in point, traditional Christmas decorations.

Last week Erin and I drove past John Fulton's B&B and she remarked about how pretty the Christmas decorations incorporating fruit were; it hit me that she didn't realize the place in our history that these decorations have, and that she had never seen Williamsburg  - much less decorated for Christmas.  I realized that when she returns to Los Angeles she may never get the chance to visit Williamsburg at Christmas, so a couple of days later we took a spontaneous day trip over to enjoy the decorations and share a little of our state and country's history.
