The star attraction of the recent Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India was not an athlete or foreign dignitary, but the world's largest aerostat - created by our very own Lindstrand USA, located in South Boston. (photo gallery below)

The 80m by 40m and 12m high aerostat is a unique piece of technology that is mounted with cameras to provide a 360-degree viewing experience so every person in the stadium could view the entire effect of the aerostat and laser projections. Light fixtures with mirrors were attached to the underbelly of the balloon to emit a warm glow.

The Town of Halifax recently launched a new website, featuring old photos of the town ranging from the 1910's to the 1930's, details of the downtown revitalization program, and a documents repository that will make forms and documents available for download.  A few news and revitalization documents are currently available in the repository, but the town is in the process of adding a number of forms for the citizens' convenience.  Click here to visit the new website.

The town also has a new Events Coordinator, Erin Throckmorton Shaughnessy, and the first event she has announced is an Earth Day Extravaganza planned for April 24; the event will include a Community Walk/Fun Run, live music, food, educational displays, and Convergence Art Guild will create a masterpiece from recycled materials found within our community. For more information about the event, visit the town's new calendar.

Posted by Lisa Kipps-Brown in webcams , technology , gadgets

I think it would be fun to have a collection of area webcams, so if you have one or know of one, please share with us.  Bill McCaleb, Halifax County's Master Gardener Coordinator, sent a link to the Master Gardeners of two live bird nest webcams in California and spurred the idea to gather a collection for this site.  It could be a fun way to help promote the area.

Here's one of the webcams he sent, a hummingbird nest (listen for the whoosh when the mommy flies in):
