from Richmond-Times Dispatch A proposed biomass-burning power plant drew strong backing from officials and residents from economically distressed Southside Virginia speaking before the Virginia State Corporation Commission today.  "This will be a great opportunity" for Halifax County, said Del. James E. Edmunds II, R-South Boston.

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative wants to build a 49.95-megawatt “green” power plant at South Boston.

This morning Delegate James Edmunds joined with Governor Bob McDonnell in announcing the Governor’s economic development agenda.  Delegate Edmunds is carrying a bill, HB380 Governor’s Opportunity Fund, requested by the Governor.

Governor McDonnell outlined an aggressive bi-partisan agenda aimed at increasing economic developments in the state while specifically focusing on Southside.

The courthouse in the town of Halifax is undergoing badly-needed repairs to correct outside drainage problems that are creating big problems for the historic structure;  for more info on the damage and possible state assistance in funding the repairs, click here.

James Edmunds was sworn in today as the new delegate for  the 60th District of Virginia, which is comprised of the counties of Halifax, Charlotte, Prince Edward and a portion of Nottoway.  James replaces Clarke Hogan, who didn't seek reelection in 2009.  He is one of 20 freshman delegates, one of the largest groups of newly elected delegates to enter the Virginia House for many years.
