Weather Closings Now Online - Submit Yours

Posted by Lisa Kipps-Brown in websites , weather , radio stations , emergency

953HLF.com and 1045TheDan.com are now posting weather closings & delays on their websites.

There is also a form on each website for businesses & organizations to submit your weather closing information online; we encourage you to use the online forms rather than calling or faxing, as the staff can update the website from any computer that is online.  That means if the staff is snowed in, they'll still be able to receive your info and get it online.

Dan River flooding status in Riverdale at 10:30am

Posted by Lisa Kipps-Brown in weather , news , emergency

As of 10:30 this morning, the Dan River was still rising, had flooded Riverdale, and was expected to continue to rise until late this evening.  According to the National Weather Service, the river was at 25.6 feet at 8am today and is forecast to crest near 26.8 feet; flood stage is 19 feet.

These photos were taken at 10:30 am;  I ran into Bunny Propst, owner of Riverdale Auto Sales, as she was there monitoring the flood's encroachment on her business.  Bunny had just heard an update that the waters might rise only 6 more inches, and is keeping her fingers crossed that's correct.   The sheds below are on the back of her property, and the water was also rising from the other side of the road.  Click the thumbnails for larger images.

Safely Support Haiti Disaster Relief

Posted by Lisa Kipps-Brown in technology , Haiti , fraud alert , emergency , charitable donations , antivirus

As with any catastrophe, the snakes are coming out and trying to take advantage of generous people who just want to help, and the FBI is warning donors to be on the lookout for fraud schemes.

"Past tragedies and natural disasters have prompted individuals with criminal intent to solicit contributions purportedly for a charitable organization and/or a good cause," the FBI said in a statement.
