Hugh Vaughan - Black Friday on a Blue Note

Posted by: Lisa Kipps-Brown in Entertainment

With the help of Ms. D. Productions, fans of Hugh Vaughan got to send out Black Friday listening to great music - much more fun than shopping!

Hugh, a native of South Boston, has been making music with bands and as a single act for years, from Watertown, NY to Key West, FL and from Savannah, GA to Breckenridge, CO. He's been on stage with BB King, Bonnie Raitt, members of the Allman Brothers Band, Johnny Winter, Bonnie Bramlett, Billy Ray Hatley, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and many others that he can't even remember.

For his special "Hugh Vaughan & Friends" evening, Hugh invited a host of friends to jam with him at times during the evening, including fellow Robyn and the Hoods members, Carl Meadows on bass, Robyn Robbins on guitar, and Doug Matze on keyboards; harmonica extraordinaire Eddie Elliott, a Halifax County native who grew up with Vaughan on Washington Avenue in South Boston; drummer Spencer Ferguson; and up-and-coming singer/songwriters Dane Ferguson and Glenn Brown - among others.

Hugh VaughanFans who were lucky enough to attend the event were in for the rare experience of being part of a true jam session - no rehearsals, set lists or scripts, just a rockin' good time with musicians who were improvising and feeding off of each other's vibes.  To top it all off, lots of those attending got to see friends they hadn't seen in years - even decades.  A night like this is what Hugh's music is all about - good friends, good times, and great music!  I'm thrilled that he has so much fun performing back at home.

On a personal note - it's especially touching to me that he invited my son Glenn to perform with him; Hugh was one of my father's (Glenn Kipps) favorite guitar students in the 60's, and for Glenn to have the opportunity to perform with him is like having Daddy come back around full circle.  Thank you so much, Hugh!
